Write a customer review. You can purchase Basics of Biblical Greek: So, I was concerned about studying a language, particularly one as unfamilar to me as Greek. The grammar continued to say throughout the book that one did not have to memorize paradigms and that it would be easier willia, one simply learned the rules of the way the word formed and the “true endings. Also, the “exegetical insights” at the beginning of each chapter really shows what a knowledge of Greek can dig out of New Testament and thus they inject motivation into the reader before beginning the chapter.
It is laid out well, and Mounce’s teaching style is straightforward. The explanations for the various grammatical constructions taught in the book e.mounce, for the most part, clear.
I took Spanish in high school a correspondence course and I must say that I wish that the textbook and workbooks for that class were produced in the same format as this Greek Grammar.
Track two has totally different exercises that allow you to teach verbs earlier. I did enjoy the book however, it was simply just not my style of language learning.
Want to Read Currently Reading Read. Learning Greek isn’t easy, but with this book it is easier than normal.
Track 1 follows the workbook and textbook in its regular order, while Track 2 is organized so you can learn the verbs earlier in the course.
And before I forget, I must also mention that Mounce has many free resources online that compliment this grammar, including a program called “FlashWorks” which exercises your memory of the Greek words you have been learning. Although there is some memory work required, Bill Mounce has reduced this to the bare essentials. This enhances my memory of the material and lets me make it part of my lifestyle.

Basics of Biblical Greek Workbook
Greek is very difficult to study in the grammar department. The workbook exercises are predominantly not exclusively Bible verses, and this gives you a taste of what’s to come. Mounce’s book would be much better if he didn’t attempt to be so cute and verbose. He even has a website with additional learning opportunities. I used this workbook for homework in my introductory Greek class at seminary. We are going through 1 John. Having a good working knowledge of basic New Testament biblical Greek has strengthened my understanding of exegesis immeasurably.
Buy it only if you are serious about learning the language. Basics of Biblical Greek: One of my only gripes is that Mounce does not make good use of the on-going developments in linguistics and verbal aspect theory.
