Though in the end there seems to be a ray of hope, it is so lost in the steaminess of life I expected more in terms of language, even though, obviously, her theme is very different from her other work, and I admit I was disappointed.

Second, why all the comparisons to Harry Potter? With the way Rowling wrote it, I had no doubt in my mind of imprecista the citizens were feeling, and yet I myself felt mostly indifference.

I maintain that one can state equivocally that one does not like a book once you’ve read enough of it to get the general feel of tone and language.
You see, Rowling was determined to make this an Adult Book, which apparently means taking on “real life” issues of the Rated R variation. I was stoked for another book from an excellent storyteller, nothing more. Also, she was probably looking for some kind of substance, because at the end of the day, this book really doesn’t have a lot going for it plot-wise.
How many times can you drop the f-bomb before it becomes irritating?
On the other hand Also, it seems deliberately, intentionally disgusting and cruel. Plus, please note that I went into the book with low expectation and I didn’t expect to find Harry Potter here.

The only theme I felt here was uuna life is hard, but most of us knew that already and don’t need to be reaffirmed of it. It marries Tolstoy’s fondness for an immense cast of characters with Dickens’ obsession over the decaying underbelly of society, and adds Austen’s proclivity for superficial chatter that often crosses into sensationalistic and sometimes libellous gossip.

It’s dry, boring, about as fast paced as a snail, devoid of a single likeable or even rlwling character, littered with rowliing themes” that don’t drive the plot but seem to be there just for the hell of it, and lacking even a single shred of artistry.

Rowling 2 16 Jan 08, The first couple hundred pages were really slow, and not much seemed to be happening. In place of Austen’s social gossip that frames, then questions, and finally reevaluates a character, this is simply a revealing of skeletons in people’s closets.
The town of Pagford is a picturesque English village in my mind, much like something out of Midsomer Murders. Because sure, magic is not likely to happen, but rape, physical abuse, and death, will surely find their way into your family.

So anyway, here is the thrice-damned book’s Amazon review which went into greater detail about my relationship to this book over the past five years. I cannot recommend this book. I struggled along hoping to find a protagonist I could get behind and imprevistaa for; yet, I continue to discover more and more scenes that made me like the characters less and less.
